Reviews Of Local Virginia Casinos
Richmond was supposed to get one of Virginia’s five casino licenses, but voters opposed it and the license passed to Petersburg. The others went to Danville, Bristol, Portsmouth and Norfolk, and three casinos are open so far: Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Caesars Virginia in Danville, the largest, which opened on December 17, 2024.
Every one of them, along with the Rosie’s Gaming Emporium slot parlors in towns such as New Kent, Hampton and Emporia, is regulated by the Virginia Lottery and limited to players 21 and over. Sportsbooks and poker rooms carry the same rule, online or in person. At 18, only the lottery and charitable gaming are open.
Sports betting is the one product Virginia lets operate fully online, and it launched in January 2021; casino games on a phone work only on-site, inside a geofence. Younger players use offshore sites instead, and the 18+ online VA casinos we recommend take Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin and stream live dealer blackjack and roulette.
