North Carolina Lawmakers Consider Legalizing Commercial Casinos

North Carolina Representative Jason Saine is sponsoring a state-issued sports betting bill passed by the House and is expected to have majority support in the Senate. With sports betting on the way, Saine told media sources that state legislators are also discussing legalizing private-owned commercial casinos.

There are currently only two brick-and-mortar casinos in North Carolina, both operated by American Indian tribes. In addition to the already established Indian casinos, 18+ online casinos operate to VA players via online casino sites outside the United States.

Virginia Is For Casino Lovers

New talks about domestic casinos in NC have been ignited by Virginia passing legislation to allow commercial casinos in 2020. Once Virginia’s general assembly passed the bill, five cities across the state are now poised to include commercial casinos in their tourism attractions.

Recently Virginia started construction on a new casino in Danville, just across the North Carolina state line, near four popular NC cities. In addition to Danville, Virginia has also approved Bristol, Norfolk, and Portsmouth to begin casino construction.

North Carolina Circles Back On Casinos

State Representative Saine told the media that attitudes toward NC casino gambling have changed over time and that the development and other adjacent amenities attract more dollars to the state. Saine said that casinos attract economic growth and that even if you don’t gamble, there are many things to do at resort-style casino locations.

Domestic casino legislation has yet to be presented to the North Carolina assembly, but there are still a few more weeks to file new state bills before the deadline.

Are 18+ Online Casinos Legal In North Carolina?

The 18+ online casinos we review will accept North Carolina players over 18. State laws only allow players over 21 to gamble at domestic casino locations. Since offshore casinos operate outside of North Carolina’s jurisdiction, they do not have to abide by local laws; however, they do suggest that players follow local ordinances to prevent any complications that may occur if a player breaks the local laws.
